Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two Victorian-era items. The first is a framed needlework sampler, embroidered with silk or cotton threads on a linen or fine canvas ground. The layout includes upper and lower case alphabets, numerals 1 to 10, and a central religious verse. The text is surrounded by decorative motifs including stylised trees, birds, baskets of flowers, and cross symbols, enclosed within a geometric border. The sampler is signed at the lower right Ellen Clark March 26 1856 and is housed in a mahogany-toned wooden frame. The second item is a decorative brass skimmer featuring a wide, shallow circular bowl with numerous perforations for straining. The handle is attached by two rivets and displays an openwork design of three interlocking circles and a spade-shaped terminal with a circular hole for hanging.
