Lot 916: A Victorian Style Mahogany Writing Desk and a Spindle Back Chair
A Victorian style writing desk constructed from mahogany, featuring a rectangular top with an inset dark brown leatherette or leather writing surface within a mahogany border. The frieze is fitted with two drawers, each having decorative moulded panels and two turned wooden knobs. The desk is supported by four turned and tapered legs, each terminating in a brass-toned metal caster. The accompanying contemporary spindle-back chair is constructed from blonde wood, likely beech or elm, with a wide curved top rail, shaped solid wood seat, and turned legs. A small white rectangular adhesive label with the printed characters 916 is present on the top corner of the desk. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible on either item.
