Lot 154: A Vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear 1928 Mercedes SS Coupe
A vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear 1928 Mercedes SS Coupe, manufactured by Lesney Products & Co. Ltd. This die-cast model vehicle features a bright blue body with a contrasting textured black roof and a light grey chassis. It is detailed with silver-painted headlights, radiator grille, and exposed side exhausts, and is fitted with white-walled tyres on spoked hubs. The underside of the car features a blue-painted baseplate with several legible moulded marks, including the Matchbox brand name, the series title Models of Yesteryear, and the designation 1928 Mercedes Benz ‘SS’. Further moulded text identifies the maker as Lesney Prod & Co Ltd, gives a copyright date of 1972, and states the country of origin as Made in England. The model is contained within its original cardboard window box, which bears the model number Y-16. The packaging features a white adhesive auction label on the plastic window transcribed as HCP Auctions South West Lot 154 and a red price sticker on the upper card.
