Lot 228: A Vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Die-cast 1922 AEC S Type Bus
A vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear die-cast 1922 AEC S Type bus, featuring the Schweppes Tonic Water advertising livery. The model is constructed with a red-painted die-cast metal body and tan plastic open-top and interior bench seating. The sides are embellished with printed white advertising banners reading SCHWEPPES TONIC WATER and the GENERAL transport logo. The front destination board is marked for HITHER GREEN and lists various London stops including Paddington Stn and Victoria Stn. The black-finished baseplate is embossed with the characters Y23, the Matchbox logo, MODELS OF YESTERYEAR, A.E.C. S TYPE BUS-1922, and LESNEY PRODUCTS P.L.C., with the origin stated as MADE IN ENGLAND copyright 1982. The original window box is present, bearing a white TRAGO MILLS price sticker marked £2 75p and a blue-framed HCP Auctions South West lot sticker numbered 228.
