Lot 1034: A Collection of Vintage Mid-Century Painted Tinplate Construction Toy Components and a Tobacco Tin
A collection of vintage mid-century painted tinplate construction toy components and a tobacco tin. The assortment consists of various perforated steel strips, angled girders, flat and flanged plates, and brackets in a primary colour palette of red, green, dark blue, and yellow. Notable pieces include several blue flanged plates with a cross-hatched embossed pattern and a large black pulley wheel fitted with a brass set screw. The components are housed within a modern white plastic storage tub, which bears a white adhesive label reading Lot 1034 PCP Auctions South West. Included in the lot is a rectangular lithographed tobacco tin, featuring a brown and cream design with gold-tone accents. The lid is printed with J. & F. Bell Three Nuns TOBACCO GLASGOW and the slogan THERE CAN BE ‘NONE NICER’.
Condition report:
The components are in well-used condition, displaying widespread paint loss, surface oxidation, and visible rust across many of the metal pieces (photo 1). Several plates and strips show physical bending and deformation consistent with extensive use (photo 1, 2). The Three Nuns tobacco tin exhibits surface scratches, minor paint loss, and small dents to the lid and base (photo 1).
