Lot 1092: A Vintage Mid-Century Two-Tone Painted Wooden Kitchen Larder Cupboard
A vintage mid-century two-tone painted wooden kitchen larder cupboard, dating from the mid-20th century. The unit is of upright rectangular form and features a cream-painted frame with contrasting maroon-painted doors and drawer fronts. The upper section is configured with two cupboard doors fitted with decorative gold-toned metal grilles, alongside a larger central compartment and a side cupboard. Two horizontal woven mesh ventilation panels are positioned below the upper cupboards. The lower section contains two central drawers flanked by two full-height cupboard doors. The cabinet is fitted with original block-form pull handles, painted in a matching cream finish. The interior is painted cream and includes various storage compartments and shelving, some of which retain vintage patterned adhesive lining paper with a yellow and blue floral motif. A small white adhesive label reading 1092 is present on the upper-left door, which is an auction house identification tag. No other maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior or shown interior sections.

Condition report:
The cabinet is in a worn, as-found condition and requires restoration. There is extensive paint loss, chipping, and heavy scuffing to the maroon-painted door and drawer fronts, revealing the underlayers (photo 1). The cream-painted frame displays multiple scuffs, dirt marks, and general surface wear consistent with age and domestic use (photo 1). The interior lining paper is peeling, torn, and stained in various sections (photo 2). The handles exhibit paint loss and surface grime. No structural damage is visible, but the cosmetic finish is significantly degraded throughout.
