Lot 1135: A Vintage Modernist Coastal Village Oil / Acrylic Painting on Board
A vintage modernist coastal village oil / acrylic painting on board, depicting a row of whitewashed buildings with blue-grey roofs and prominent chimneys, reminiscent of a Scottish or Northern English harbour town. The work is executed in a late 20th-century tonalist style, utilising a muted palette of greys, whites, and earthy tones with broad, atmospheric brushwork. To the right of the central architectural block, a sparsely populated beach is suggested by simplified figures and umbrellas. The painting is presented on a large-scale canvas-wrapped board without a frame. A white rectangular adhesive label to the upper right corner reads HCP Auctions South West Lot 1135 www.hcpauctions.net, next to a smaller sticker printed with 46757. No signature or further inscriptions are visible to the front or reverse.
Condition report:
The painting is unframed. There are visible surface indentations and light scuffs to the canvas, particularly along the top edge (photo 1). Minor surface dirt is present throughout. No significant craquelure or paint loss is noted.
