Lot 281: Two Vintage Terracotta Garden Planters
Two vintage terracotta garden planters of substantial scale and differing decorative forms. The first planter is of a large, bulbous shape with a wide rim, featuring a wide central band of incised diagonal chevron-style geometric decoration. The surface displays a heavily weathered patina with an accumulation of moss and lichen growth. The second planter is of a tapered cylindrical form, decorated with a moulded frieze around the rim depicting flowers and trailing leaves. A white adhesive label is affixed to the rim of the floral-decorated planter, printed with HCP Auctions South West / Lot 282 / www.hcpauctions.com. A strip of white adhesive tape is also present on the rim of this vessel. No manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on either piece. Both currently contain soil and dried plant remains.
