Lot 374: A Collection of Vintage British Police and Royal Navy Uniform Items
A collection of vintage British uniform items, comprising two pieces of headwear and a heavy wool garment. The lot includes a British Home Service pattern helmet, likely for police use, featuring a cork or stiffened felt body covered in black cloth. The helmet is topped with a white-metal ball finial on a circular base and includes a thin leather trim and chin strap. The front and side of the helmet are marked with white painted characters, specifically a square containing a smaller square, a dot above two diagonal lines, and two hook-like characters. Also included is a dark cloth fatigue cap, featuring a prominent brass-toned circular ventilation eyelet with a starburst pattern on the side and a white painted character resembling the letter L. The final item is a navy blue wool tailcoat, which is currently folded. The lot is contained within a green cardboard box bearing a white adhesive label with handwritten text in black ink reading 9999 / VINTAGE POLICE / HELMETS / ROYAL / NAVY TAIL COAT. No maker names or manufacturer stamps are legible on the items.
