Lot 405: A Collection of Vintage Maritime Natural History Specimens and Nautical Decor
A collection of vintage maritime natural history specimens and nautical decor, comprising a variety of beach-found objects and decorative items. The natural history portion of the lot features a large European spider crab carapace, likely Maja squinado, displaying a characteristically spiny and calcified surface in shades of orange and brown. The assortment of marine shells includes a large, intact gastropod shell with brown and white banding, a red and white bivalve shell, and a flat stone heavily encrusted with white, calcified serpulid worm tubes. Also included is a diverse group of approximately thirty water-worn beach stones of varying textures and one piece of weathered driftwood. The decorative elements consist of a long, narrow wooden sign with a navy blue painted ground and white raised lettering reading CAPTAIN’S followed by a central anchor symbol and QUARTERS. The lot is completed by a small painted resin or plastic figurine of a seagull in flight.
