A vintage David Bell for Nauticalia Ocean Explorer set of table mats, comprising a collection of heat-resistant composite placemats featuring maritime illustrations after original watercolours by David Bell. The set depicts significant vessels from the golden age of Antarctic exploration, specifically Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance and Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s Discovery. Each mat is finished with a deep maroon border, gold-tone inner stringing, and includes printed historical captions detailing the ships’ construction, launches, and expeditions. A printed signature for the artist David Bell is visible in the lower right corner of the Endurance mat. The mats are presented in their original maroon card box which bears a gold foil-printed brand name Nauticalia above an emblem depicting a sailing ship in a bottle.
