Lot 543: A Pair of Vintage Yoshikasumachi Japanese Porcelain Vases and Assorted Knife Rests
A pair of vintage Japanese porcelain vases and assorted table knife rests from the mid-20th century. The ovoid vases feature a pale green ground decorated with a dense Thousand Faces pattern in overglaze enamels and gilding, framed by scrolling foliage and geometric borders. The base of each vase is marked with a hand-painted red script reading Yoshikasumachi, above a red stamped maker’s mark depicting a samurai helmet, and the words MADE IN JAPAN printed in red. The lot includes three assorted knife rests: two featuring central cream-coloured handles of bone or celluloid construction with wire-wrapped metal collars and X-shaped supports, and a third smaller example constructed entirely from metal with ball-tipped three-pronged terminals.
