Lot 575: A Vintage Art Deco Glazed Earthenware Mantel Clock
A vintage Art Deco glazed earthenware mantel clock dating from the 1920s or 1930s. The ceramic case is of a square, stepped form with rounded shoulders, featuring a relief-moulded stylised sunburst or fan motif to the upper edge. It is finished in a distinctive marbled and streaked glaze in varying shades of purple, lilac, and deep blue. The square, brass-toned dial has a textured gold-coloured finish, bold black Art Deco Arabic numerals, and two winding holes indicating a mechanical striking movement. It is fitted with two black-finished spade hands. The reverse of the case features a central circular brass movement cover. A white adhesive inventory label is attached to the right side of the wooden support reading ‘HCP Auctions South West Lot 575’. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin marks are visible on the dial or exterior of the ceramic case.
