Lot 577: A Collection of Vintage RAF Navigational Instruments and Motoring Memorabilia
A collection of vintage RAF navigational instruments and motoring memorabilia, including a Blundell Harling Portland Series navigational protractor, model 0656.60, housed in its original blue and white card box which is printed BLUNDELL HARLING Made in England. The group also features a circular flight computer marked COMPUTER DEAD RECKONING MARK 4 and U.S. CAL, with scales for true airspeed and pressure altitude. Automotive interest is represented by two Automobile Association (AA) badges with yellow enamel grounds and a 1939 supplement to The Autocar magazine titled WEEK-END and DAY RUNS. Further items include a pair of brass parallel rules in a protective canvas case, a small black-dial magnetic compass, and a dual-lens optical instrument. A handwritten note identifies an antique metal ORLIK SPORT lighter, and two cylindrical copper flasks with screw caps and an aged patina are also present.
