Lot 589: A Myott, Son & Co. Ltd. Bonnie-Dundee pattern teacup and saucer
This matched teacup and saucer set is produced from glazed earthenware. The teacup is a footed form with a simple loop handle. Both pieces feature multi-coloured transfer-printed decoration. A brown transfer-printed lattice or chain border, punctuated with small floral rosettes, encircles the interior rim of the cup and the outer rim of the saucer. The centre of the saucer well and the interior base of the cup are decorated with a polychrome floral basket motif, featuring a prominent pink rose and a yellow bloom. The underside of the cup bears a brown printed backstamp consisting of a crown crest. Beneath the crown are the printed words MYOTT, SON & CO. LTD. ENGLAND. To the right of the crown, the pattern name BONNIE-DUNDEE is printed. Curving along the bottom is the phrase MADE IN ENGLAND. A small, hand-painted mark in green pigment is also present on the base.
Condition report:
Both the teacup and saucer exhibit extensive and heavy glaze crazing across all surfaces (photos 1, 2, and 3). There is evidence of minor tea staining and discolouration trapped within the crazing lines on the interior base and the underside of the cup (photos 1 and 3). The foot rim of the cup shows light shelf wear (photo 3). No chips or structural cracks are visible in the provided images.
