Lot 591: A Vintage Mixed-Media Wood and Metal Model Biplane Wall Shelf
A vintage mixed-media wood and metal model biplane wall shelf, constructed with two flat wooden wings joined by four tubular black metal struts. The central fuselage is formed from a cast metal bell, which is decorated with a band of embossed scrollwork and a beaded rim. The front of the model is fitted with a two-bladed metal propeller, and the undercarriage consists of a wire-frame landing gear with two spoked metal wheels. The wooden elements have a natural finish, while the metal components exhibit a distressed, oxidised patina with visible surface rust to create an industrial aesthetic. A white adhesive auction label is attached to the propeller, reading HCP Auctions South West Lot 591 www.hcpauctions.net. No other maker marks or signatures are present.
Condition report:
The wooden wings are in good condition with no apparent cracks or major splintering (photo 1). The metal components, including the propeller and the bell fuselage, show significant surface oxidation and light rust as part of the decorative finish (photo 1 and 2). The wire-frame landing gear and spoked wheels remain intact and properly attached (photo 1). The item appears complete based on its stylised design.
