Lot 611: A Vintage Connor Ceramics Sculptural Glazed Studio Pottery Wall Pocket
A vintage Connor Ceramics sculptural glazed studio pottery wall pocket, handcrafted in Cumbria. The piece is of slab-built construction, featuring an irregular, jagged, and layered form with a central vessel pocket tapering towards a pointed base. The exterior is finished in a multi-tonal decorative scheme comprising horizontal bands of mottled sky-blue satin glaze alongside thick, heavily textured crawl or reptilian glazes in shades of olive green and brown. Terracotta-coloured slip accents define the sharp ridges and edges. The interior is coated in a dark green textured glaze. A rectangular gold foil adhesive label is applied to the reverse, which is partially torn but legible as HANDMADE IN CUMBRIA, CONNOR CERAMICS, STODDAH GATE BARN, PENRUDDOCK PENRITH and a partial telephone number.
Condition report:
The item is in excellent original condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The irregular, sharp edges are a deliberate feature of the slab-built sculptural form. The maker\'s label on the reverse is partially torn (photo 3).
