Lot 641: A Vintage Gratien & Meyer Lithographed Tin Table Lamp
A vintage Gratien & Meyer lithographed tin table lamp, repurposed from a presentation cylinder for French sparkling wine. The base is formed from a tall metal cylinder featuring wrap-around lithographed decoration, including historical illustrations of subterranean cellars, a bottle of champagne, and descriptive text in both French and English. The lamp is fitted with a single bulb socket at the top which supports a cream-coloured tapered fabric drum shade. The piece is wired with modern black plastic-coated flex featuring a white in-line thumb switch and a moulded UK 3-pin plug. The base is prominently marked GRATIEN & MEYER in bold serif lettering, accompanied by the phrases L’ENGAGEMENT D’UNE MAISON FAMILIALE DEPUIS 1864 and A FAMILY COMMITMENT SINCE 1864, with specific reference to Saumur and Cuvée Flamme Brut. A small fluorescent pink circular adhesive label bearing the number 32 is located on the lower section of the tin. The moulded plug bears the manufacturer name BAOHING and model GTSA-3F.
Condition report:
The lithographed tin base shows minor surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and use (photo 1). There is a small pink inventory sticker present on the lower base (photo 2). The cream fabric shade is in generally good order, with some minor loose threads visible along the stitched seams (photo 1). A clump of dust and cobweb is caught between the bulb socket and the top of the tin base (photo 1). The electrical cord and plug appear to be in good physical condition. The item is sold as untested and should be professionally PAT tested prior to use.
