Lot 697: A Vintage Decca Winston S. Churchill Memoirs and Speeches Vinyl LP Box Set
A vintage Decca Winston S. Churchill memoirs and speeches vinyl LP box set, published in the mid-20th century. The set is housed in a heavy, hinged-lid box featuring a distinctive high-relief textured finish designed to resemble hammered bronze or aged metal. The recordings contain an archival collection of Churchill’s memoirs and historical speeches covering the period from 1918 to 1945. The front cover is embellished with raised, silver-toned serif lettering reading WINSTON S. CHURCHILL and HIS MEMOIRS AND HIS SPEECHES 1918 to 1945. A small rectangular black and gold plaque at the top left reads DECCA. The item retains several adhesive labels, including a handwritten paper tag marked 9249 and R £10, and a white auction sticker for Lot 697 from HCP Auctions South West.
Condition report:
The exterior box shows significant wear and deterioration. There is extensive loss and peeling of the black surface coating, particularly concentrated on the right-hand side of the front panel and along the bottom edge, revealing the underlying base material (photo 1). The textured relief areas exhibit accumulated dust and general surface aging. The internal contents, including the vinyl discs and any accompanying literature, are not visible and have not been assessed for condition. Box condition: Poor/Fair. Media condition: Uninspected.
