Lot 712: A Vintage Wade Earthenware Gluggle Jug Fish Pitcher
A vintage Wade earthenware gluggle jug fish pitcher, modelled as a stylized upright fish with an open mouth and a curved tail forming an integral loop handle. The vessel is finished in a vibrant turquoise-blue glaze, featuring iridescent metallic-effect green and gold-toned lustre highlights applied to the head, gills, and lower body. The exterior is detailed with moulded overlapping scales and raised anatomical fins. The oval base features an embossed mark reading GLUGGLE JUG BY WADE above MADE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT and ENGLAND. A handwritten signature in a gold-toned lustre is also present on the base, which reads Wade.
Condition report:
The jug appears to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The iridescent glaze retains a high-gloss finish. There is minor surface marking and light staining to the unglazed foot rim as seen in photo 2.
