Lot 714: A Vintage Hand-Painted Wooden Horse Marionette
A vintage hand-painted wooden horse marionette, constructed from carved wood with a white painted finish. The body is decorated with stylised red and yellow starburst and floral motifs, accented by black scrollwork and hand-painted facial features including a red bridle. The four legs are jointed with articulating pin joints at the shoulders, hips, and knees, terminating in black-painted hooves. A mane and tail are fashioned from thick, crimped black wool. Manipulation is achieved via attached cord strings. The piece bears a white adhesive auction label printed HCP Auctions South West Lot 714 www.hcpauctions.net, and a smaller tag with the handwritten number 46733.
Condition report:
General surface wear and scattered paint loss are visible across the wooden body and limbs (photo 1). Small vertical splits are present in the wood of the legs (photo 2). The black woollen mane and tail show matting and dust (photo 1). The cord control strings are present but worn and tangled (photo 2).
