Lot 734: A Collection of Vintage Ceramic Washware and a Folk Character Doll
A collection of vintage ceramic washware and a folk character doll, comprising a transfer-printed wash jug and basin set, a companion bowl, and a textile character figure. The wash jug is decorated with a scenic equestrian transfer depicting two figures on horseback against a blue-sky ground, whilst the matching basin features a peach-toned exterior embellished with purple floral sprays. The accompanying character doll represents an elderly woman, possibly a market seller, holding a metal balance scale with a weight; she is dressed in a green gown with a floral pattern, a blue apron, and a lace-trimmed bonnet and shawl. The jug bears a white rectangular adhesive sticker printed with the number 46671. A white lot tag for HCP Auctions South West identifies the group as Lot 734. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible on the displayed surfaces.
Condition report:
A significant vertical hairline crack is visible running through the side of the washbasin (photo 3). All items exhibit a layer of accumulated surface dust and debris consistent with long-term storage (photo 1). The folk doll shows minor age-related wear and light discolouration to the lace trim (photo 2).
