Lot 738: A Vintage Rhinestone-Encrusted Skull Novelty Telephone
A vintage rhinestone-encrusted skull novelty telephone, featuring a pavé-set exterior of clear faceted diamante rhinestones. The telephone is modelled as a human skull, with the cranium and upper jaw acting as the handset and the base containing the cradle and keypad. The upper teeth are finished in a gold-tone material and encrusted with yellow faceted stones. Inside the base, a standard black plastic push-button keypad is present, featuring numeric buttons from 0 to 9, star and hash keys, and dedicated buttons for FLASH and REDIAL. The unit is accompanied by a black coiled handset cord and a standard straight black line cord. No maker’s marks, manufacturer labels, or model numbers are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces of the device.
Condition report:
The telephone appears to be in good cosmetic condition. Most rhinestones appear to be intact, though there is minor irregularity in the coverage along the seam where the handset meets the base (photo 1). The black plastic interior of the cradle and handset shows minor surface scuffing and accumulated dust (photo 2). The gold-tone finish on the teeth appears intact. Mechanical and electrical functionality has not been tested.
