Lot 764: A Pair of Vintage Plush and Faux-Leather Teddy Bears
A pair of vintage plush and faux-leather teddy bears, comprising an aviator-themed novelty bear and a traditional jointed teddy bear. The aviator bear is constructed from golden-tan plush and features a detailed costume consisting of a black faux-leather flight helmet with white shearling-effect lining, clear plastic goggles with a black elasticated strap, a black faux-leather flight jacket with matching white lining, a white shirt, and a red fabric neck scarf. The bear is finished with black bead eyes and a brown plush nose. The traditional bear is made from honey-coloured mohair-style plush and features five-way jointing to the head, arms, and legs. It is finished with textured dark brown vinyl paw pads, black bead eyes, and a hand-stitched black nose and mouth, adorned with a brown satin ribbon bow. An adhesive white label from HCP Auctions South West is attached to the jointed bear, reading ‘HCP Auctions South West Lot 764 www.hcpauctions.net’. Two additional white paper tags are attached, handwritten with ‘1045’ and prices of ‘$5.00’ and ‘£5.00’. No legible manufacturer names or brand labels are present on either item.
Condition report:
Both bears appear in good vintage condition. The aviator bear shows no visible peeling or cracking to the faux-leather flight helmet or jacket (photo 3). The traditional bear shows minor thinning to the plush pile and slight fraying to the ribbon ends, consistent with age and a traditional aesthetic (photo 4). Both items appear clean with no significant stains, losses, or structural damage observed from the photographs provided.
