Lot 876: A Pair of Vintage Welsh and Danish Handheld Fabric Flags on Wooden Poles
A pair of vintage Welsh and Danish handheld fabric flags on wooden poles, representing the national ensigns of Wales and Denmark. The Welsh flag, Y Ddraig Goch, features a screen-printed red dragon passant on a horizontal field of white and green, attached to a light-coloured wooden pole capped with a white spherical finial. The Danish flag, or Dannebrog, depicts a white cross on a red ground, mounted to a wooden pole with a dark-stained turned finial. A white rectangular adhesive label attached to one pole reads HCP Auctions South West Lot 876 www.hcpauctions.com, and a second loose label on the surrounding surface reads HCP Auctions South West Lot 875.
Condition report:
The Danish flag shows heavy staining, discoloration, and foxing, particularly across the white cross, with noticeable fading to the red ground (photo 1). The Welsh flag appears in cleaner condition with minor creasing throughout the fabric (photo 1). Both wooden poles and finials show light surface wear and dust consistent with age.
