Lot 882: A Mid-Century Art Deco Figured Walnut Bow-Fronted Display Cabinet
A mid-century Art Deco figured walnut bow-fronted display cabinet of demi-lune form. The cabinet features twin central doors with curved glass panes, overlaid with wooden astragal glazing bars arranged in a double-oval pattern. These are flanked by two fixed curved glass side panels. The interior is fitted with two removable glass shelves and a walnut-veneered floor. The carcass is finished in highly figured walnut veneers and is raised on four short bun feet. A white adhesive auction lot label is applied to the upper left glass pane, which reads 1117 and 882; no maker’s name or trademark is visible on the piece.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The cabinet displays general surface wear consistent with age and use, including light scratches, scuffs, and minor fading to the timber finish. There are small nicks and minor losses to the walnut veneer, particularly around the base edge and feet (photo 1). The curved glass panels and internal glass shelving appear to be intact and free from cracks or significant chips.
