Lot 920: A Vintage Staples & Co Ltd Oak Drop-side Cot / Daybed Frame
A vintage Staples & Co Ltd oak drop-side cot / daybed frame from the mid-20th century. The frame is constructed from solid oak with a medium-toned finish, featuring vertical slatted sides and a functional hinged drop-side mechanism to one side. The base consists of a wire-link mesh spring in a diamond pattern, secured to the inner wooden frame by multiple small tension springs. Stamped in capital letters on the upper internal wooden rail of the spring base are the characters STAPLES & CO LTD followed by PATENT. A small handwritten paper auction tag is attached to the side rail, though the script is not legible.

Condition report:
The frame shows surface scuffs, scratches, and minor indentations throughout, consistent with domestic use and age (photos 1 and 2). The metal wire-mesh base is structurally intact but exhibits surface oxidation and minor rusting (photo 2). The drop-side mechanism is functional, with visible wear to the timber at the friction points. One leg retains a small metal caster, while the other legs appear to have plain wooden feet or are missing their original casters (photo 2).
