Lot 970: A Mid-Century Oil on Board Landscape Painting
A mid-century oil on board landscape painting, depicting a two-storey peach-toned building, possibly a farmhouse or inn, set within a verdant landscape. The work is executed in an impressionistic style with loose, textured brushwork capturing dappled light on foliage and the varied tones of the building’s facade. The composition is angled, looking down a path that recedes past the structure. The colour palette is dominated by warm ochres and terracottas, contrasted with deep greens and autumnal rust-reds of the surrounding trees. The painting is housed in a substantial multi-part frame comprising a dark wood outer moulding with a gilt edge, a wide off-white linen slip, and a thin gilt inner fillet. There is an illegible painted signature in the lower right corner. Two white adhesive labels from HCP Auctions South West are present, reading Lot 970 and Lot 874 respectively. A small circular pink sticker with the handwritten digits 7 and 5 is applied to the lower left corner of the frame.
Condition report:
The painting appears to be in good overall condition with no prominent craquelure or paint loss visible (photo 1). The frame shows minor signs of age-related wear, including small scuffs to the outer wood edges and slight discolouration to the linen slip (photo 1).
