Lot 989: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Evertaut Industrial Swivel Chairs
A pair of mid-20th century Evertaut industrial swivel chairs, designed for utilitarian office or factory use. The first chair features a rectangular seat and backrest upholstered in black vinyl, mounted to a grey-painted steel frame with a four-point base terminating in glides. The second chair is upholstered in a textured purple fabric with a rounded seat and a smaller, adjustable backrest. This chair is supported by a tubular metal frame with a splayed four-leg base and a central screw-threaded post for height adjustment. The central housing of the tubular base bears a printed adhesive label in a rectangular format, featuring a red lozenge border containing the text ‘EVERTAUT’, with ‘SEATING LIMITED’ and ‘DARWEN ENGLAND’ below. White adhesive inventory stickers are present on the backrests, reading ‘5766’ and ‘989’ respectively.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
Both chairs are in poor to fair condition and require significant restoration. The black vinyl upholstery is heavily damaged, with large tears to the upper and side edges of the backrest and several punctures and cracks in the seat cushion (photo 1). The fabric upholstery is worn, faded, and heavily soiled with dust and debris (photo 1). Both metal frames and bases exhibit extensive surface corrosion, pitting, and paint loss throughout (photo 1, photo 2).
