Lot 273: A Collection of Late Victorian and Mid-20th Century Cloth-bound Books
A collection of late Victorian and mid-20th century cloth-bound books, including a five-volume run of the satirical periodical Punch or The London Charivari. The Punch volumes are half-bound in black textured cloth with marbled paper boards, the spines featuring gilt-stamped lettering reading P U N C H above consecutive years 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893, and 1894. Military history titles include A History of the Regiments & Uniforms of the British Army by Maj. R. M. Barnes, published by Seeley Service, featuring a blue cloth cover with a pictorial inlay of a soldier. Further military works include Invasion 1940 by Peter Fleming, published by Faber, An Army in Exile by Lt. General W. Anders, and El Alamein by Correlli Barnett, both published by Macmillan. Topographical and heritage interest is represented by Batsford publications including The Legacy of England and The Beauty of Britain.
