Lot 308: A Collection of Six Fortnum and Mason and Marks and Spencer Lithographed Confectionery Tins
A collection of six decorative lithographed metal tins from British retailers. The group includes a round light-blue tin featuring a musical carousel theme, with the lid bearing a printed musical staff and the text HAPPY BIRTHDAY; the upper rim is printed with the name FORTNUM & MASON. A square red-lacquered tin commemorates the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, featuring a central crown illustration and text reading QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1952 2022, and 70 YEAR REIGN; a circular silver-coloured adhesive label in the corner reads M&S FOOD LIMITED EDITION PLATINUM JUBILEE BRITISH ALL BUTTER SHORTBREAD. One rectangular tin is shaped and decorated as a London double-decker bus, featuring a Union Jack flag on top with the text M&S LONDON, and sides showing route 159 with a destination of PADDINGTON BASIN. A tall cylindrical tin is formed as a traditional nutcracker soldier in blue, gold, and red. A conical teal-coloured tin features celestial and bauble decorations and is pierced with small circular holes; a printed label on the side reads M&S FOOD SWISS TRUFFLE ASSORTMENT LIGHT UP TREE. The collection is completed by a silver-toned rectangular tin featuring an all-over embossed geometric pattern.
The nutcracker tin measures approximately 25cm (10 inches) in height.
