Lot 684: A Pair of English Glazed Earthenware Salt and Pepper Shakers in the Harvest Pattern

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of English mid-century glazed earthenware salt and pepper shakers. Each vessel features a rounded, bulbous form with an integrated domed top and a slightly flared, footed base. The cream-coloured bodies are decorated with a transfer-printed Harvest pattern motif depicting ripening blackberries, white blossoms, green and brown foliage, and a single stalk of wheat. A single, thin russet-brown horizontal band encircles the base of each piece. The shakers are differentiated by the perforation patterns on the domed tops: one features a single central hole, while the other features three holes (photo 1). Both items are fitted with their original flexible cream-coloured stoppers, which are embossed with the text SUBA-SEAL, MADE IN ENGLAND, and PAT NO 469982 (photo 2). The ceramic base of one shaker is stamped with a small black number 32 (photo 2), while the base of the second shaker bears a faint, indistinct mark that is not clearly legible.
