Lot 705: A Glass Galileo Thermometer with Five Blue Internal Floats
A glass Galileo thermometer featuring a tall, sealed cylindrical body set upon a flared circular pedestal base. The central chamber is filled with a clear fluid containing five spherical glass floats, each partially filled with a blue-coloured liquid to provide buoyancy. Suspended from the base of each float is a small, circular, gold-toned metal tag stamped with a numerical temperature reading in degrees Celsius. The tags are marked respectively as 26°, 24°, 22°, 20°, and 18°. The instrument is designed as a decorative indoor temperature gauge, functioning on the principle of buoyancy where the floats rise and fall according to changes in ambient temperature. No manufacturer’s marks or branding are visible on the exterior glass or internal components.
