Lot 831: S & H Pope The Marlow Patent Wooden Baby Cot
A vintage hardwood baby cot constructed with slatted sides and ends, featuring four turned circular finials at the corners. The piece is equipped with a dropside mechanism operated by metal sliding rods. The sleeping platform consists of a woven diamond-pattern wire mesh base, which is suspended from the internal wooden frame by a series of small helical tension springs. Stamped into the wooden cross-rail at one end of the mesh base is an impressed mark reading S & H P OPE followed by two illegible characters, T H E M A R L O W, and P A T E N T. This item is an antique collectible and does not conform to modern safety standards, including BS EN 716, regarding bar spacing and base construction. It is sold for decorative, prop, or display purposes only and is not recommended for use with infants.
