Lot 888: An early 20th-century Jacobean Revival carved oak box settle
This early 20th-century hall bench or box settle is constructed from solid oak with a dark-stained finish. Designed in the Jacobean Revival style, the piece features a horizontal rectangular back panel with deep relief carving of scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The lower portion consists of a box seat with a hinged lid that opens to reveal a shallow interior storage compartment. The front of the box is decorated with a semicircular relief-carved panel that echoes the scrolling patterns of the back and is centred with a turned boss. The side panels have a distinctive wavy profile and are pierced with a heart-shaped cutout at each upper corner. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces.
