Lot 981: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Clear Glass Wine Carafes
A pair of mid-20th century clear glass wine carafes, intended for use in the hospitality industry. The first carafe is of a ‘pinch’ design, featuring a flaring rim and a tapering neck that descends to a bulbous body. The body is characterised by two large circular side indentations meant for a secure grip during service. A small impressed mark is located in the centre of one indentation; it consists of a square containing a character that is not legible as a maker’s name. The second carafe features a flaring rim and a pear-shaped body. It is decorated with an orange-brown transfer-printed logo that reads ‘OUR BEST’ in a superior arc above a central illustration of a wooden wine barrel, with the word ‘WINE’ printed in an inferior arc below.
