Lot 898: A Dappled Grey Rocking Horse on a Wooden Safety Stand
Not sold
A hand-carved wooden rocking horse on a dark-stained safety glider stand. The horse is finished in a traditional dappled grey gesso and paint, featuring hand-painted details to the eyes, nostrils, and muzzle. It is fitted with a light brown natural horsehair mane and tail. The tack consists of a black leather bridle with metal bits, a brown leather breastplate, and a dark brown numnah with a decorative brass-studded border and a central pocket. The saddle is equipped with leather stirrup leathers and metal stirrup irons. The horse is mounted on a substantial wooden trestle stand with four uprights and horizontal bracing, utilizing a steel glider mechanism to allow for a smooth rocking motion. A small white adhesive label is attached to the bridle, although the text is not clearly legible as a maker’s name.
Large-scale furniture item; exact dimensions are not provided.
