Lot 562: A Royal Worcester Porcelain Dinner and Tea Service in the Contessa Pattern
Not sold
A comprehensive porcelain dinner and tea service produced by Royal Worcester in the Contessa pattern. The service is crafted from fine white glazed porcelain and features a minimalist design accented by double-banded gilt rims. The forms are classically rounded, with pieces such as the teapot, tureen, and cream jug featuring elegant looped handles and stylized finials. The collection includes eight dinner plates, six shallow bowls, six pudding bowls, an oval platter, a large lidded tureen with a matching stand, a teapot, a gravy boat with an attached underplate, a cream jug, and a lidded sugar bowl. A handwritten adhesive label present with the service identifies the maker as Royal Worcester and the pattern as Contessa, which corresponds with the distinctive double-gilt band decoration. Further handwritten labels on green adhesive paper provide a detailed inventory, including the count of eight trios consisting of a cup, saucer, and side plate.
