Lot 58: A Heavy Industrial Iron and Bronze Snatch Block Pulley
Not sold
A large-scale industrial snatch block pulley of heavy-duty construction, likely of marine or recovery origin. The block features a robust iron or cast steel housing with a thick, textured oxidation throughout. It is fitted with a single internal sheave (pulley wheel) manufactured from a copper-based alloy, displaying a characteristic green verdigris patina. The assembly includes a large, heavy-duty threaded shackle at the head, secured by a substantial nut and bolt. A secondary shackle is attached at the tail end via a large, wrought iron chain link and is secured by a pin-and-cotter arrangement. The pulley wheel contains a deep central groove designed to accommodate heavy rope or steel cable. No legible manufacturer marks, weight capacity ratings, or stamps are visible on the surface due to the advanced state of oxidation.
Condition report:
The item appears structurally complete with both upper and lower shackles and their respective pins present (photo 1). The entire surface displays significant, heavy oxidation and textured rust pitting consistent with age and exposure (photo 2). The internal bronze sheave and the shackle pins appear to be seized due to the level of corrosion and would require extensive restoration to achieve functionality. The rope grooves show evidence of historic wear and use (photo 3).
