A set of four demitasse / espresso cups and five matching saucers manufactured by Wedgwood at the Etruria works. Each piece is constructed from cream-coloured earthenware, with the cups featuring a cylindrical form and distinctive D-shaped angular handles. The collection is decorated with a continuous trailing vine motif featuring clusters of purple grapes, green leaves, and brown tendrils, finished with a thin brown band to the rims. The base of one cup bears a printed black mark reading Manufactured for / JAMES POWELL & SONS / Whitefriars Glass Works, E.C. / and / 11 Conduit Street W. / LONDON / WEDGWOOD / ETRURIA. The mark indicates these pieces were produced specifically for the prestigious London retailer James Powell & Sons (Whitefriars). Also present is a hand-painted alphanumeric pattern code A 4933 and four small impressed dots.
