Lot 739: A Collection of British Royal Commemorative Earthenware and Glassware
A collection of British Royal commemorative souvenir ware, primarily consisting of earthenware and bone china pieces. The group includes a large cylindrical commemorative earthenware jug with a ribbed body, featuring a transfer-printed double portrait of King George V and Queen Mary to celebrate the 1910-1935 Silver Jubilee. Also present is a pressed clear glass shallow bowl with a textured border, featuring the name ELIZABETH and THE SIXTH in the design. The collection features several commemorative mugs, including one in cream-coloured earthenware with a relief portrait and the printed text EDWARD VIII ASCENDED THE THRONE. Another earthenware mug features a moulded relief portrait of a monarch finished in a brown glaze, with visible rim text reading KING GEORGE. Two ceramic character jugs are included: one depicting a bearded figure in a black hat with red roses, and a smaller example depicting a female figure with red hair and a golden headdress. The group is completed by several bone china mugs and plates with transfer-printed portraits and heraldic crests, including two saucers bearing the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. One mug base features a small white adhesive label, but the text is not legible.
