Lot 11: A Victorian Rosewood and Mother of Pearl Inlaid Writing Slope
A Victorian rosewood writing slope of rectangular form, featuring decorative mother of pearl inlays. The exterior is embellished with foliate and scroll-work mother of pearl motifs to the lid and front panel, including a central cartouche and corner accents. The box opens on brass hinges to reveal a sloped writing surface upholstered in a red leather-effect material with a blind-tooled border. Internally, the upper section contains a fitted pen tray, two square compartments for inkwells, and a lidded compartment for sundries. A hinged wooden panel under the writing surface provides access to an internal storage area. The brass lock mechanism is present, and the piece is accompanied by a small metal key.
