Lot 134: A Continental Cast and Pierced Silver Sifter Spoon
A continental cast silver sifter spoon, featuring an elaborate openwork design throughout. The broad, circular bowl is decorated in a Rococo fashion, centred by a winged figure, possibly a cherub or mythological deity, surrounded by scrolling foliage and stylized winged creatures. The handle continues this ornate theme with further figurative and foliate openwork, terminating in a shaped terminal. The piece is executed in a heavy gauge of silver with a flat-finished reverse. Small indentations and marks are present on the narrow section of the handle, though these are not legible as a specific maker, assay office, or date letter. The item displays a dark patina in the recessed areas characteristic of aged silver.
