Two vintage duck decoys of composite construction, each featuring a hand-carved body and a separately fashioned head. The larger decoy depicts a mallard hen, with a body displaying shallow incised feather detailing across the back and wings. It is finished in a neutral palette of cream and grey with dark brown highlights, featuring a slightly turned head and a flattened bill. The second decoy, possibly representing a Canada goose, is constructed with a deeply textured and incised body to simulate layered plumage, topped with a curved neck and head that retains remnants of orange and black pigment. Both pieces exhibit a heavy field-worn patina with considerable surface grime and evidence of historic use. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the upper surfaces of the objects.
