A mid-century Japanese musical jewellery box constructed from wood with a black lacquered exterior finish. The rectangular lid features a central oshie-style raised fabric landscape panel under glass, depicting a traditional Japanese scene with Mount Fuji, pagodas, a red bridge, and sailing boats, accented with metallic threads. This central panel is bordered by two vertical rows of square, frosted, and textured glass tiles with a craquelure appearance, a decorative motif that continues in columns down the sides of the box. The interior is fully lined with red plush velvet and contains a mirror inset to the inner lid. The base is partitioned into a main storage area and a secondary covered compartment which houses the wind-up musical movement. No maker’s marks or signatures are present on the surfaces of the item.
