Lot 974: A Pair of Victorian Balloon Back Dining Chairs
Not sold
A pair of Victorian dining chairs constructed from solid hardwood, likely beech or mahogany, with a medium-toned stained finish. Each chair features a classic balloon back design characterized by a hoop-shaped open frame with a shaped central splat. The backs are joined to the seat rails with visible dowel joinery. The chairs possess solid wood saddle seats, each exhibiting a prominent natural grain. The front supports are decorative, featuring ring-turned and baluster detailing tapering to small feet, while the rear legs are of a slightly flared, plain square-section form. The legs are united by a turned H-stretcher for structural reinforcement. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels were observed on the frames or the visible undersides of the seats.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
