Lot 763: Mid-20th Century Oak Sewing Table with Contents
A mid-20th century oak and mixed hardwood sewing table. The rectangular hinged lid, finished in a distressed grey paint, opens to reveal a single deep compartment. The interior is lined with pleated orange synthetic fabric featuring an elasticated storage pocket to the underside of the lid and decorative fringed trim. The base comprises square-section uprights supporting the box, joined by a shaped lower shelf with a dark-stained finish, terminating in block feet. The table contains a collection of vintage sewing sundries, including wooden and plastic thread spools with labels for Dewhurst’s Sylko, Three Shells, and Coats, alongside button cards marked Ladybird and Premier, and various fabric remnants.
Condition report:
The item is in a worn, used condition. There is significant paint loss, scratching, and staining to the lid. The wooden frame and lower shelf show various scuffs, marks, and scratches consistent with age and use. The interior fabric lining is generally intact but shows some fading and light fraying to the decorative trim.
