Lot 790: A Mid-Century Modern Dark Stained Wood Lounge Armchair with Wide Plank Armrests
A mid-to-late 20th-century low-profile lounge armchair, circa 1960s-1970s. The frame is constructed from dark-stained hardwood, possibly elm, featuring a prominent grain. The design is characterised by a sturdy, chunky frame with exceptionally wide, flat horizontal plank-style armrests that extend beyond the upright supports. The seat is set in a reclined position for a relaxed lounge profile. It is fitted with a single large, loose-fitting cushion upholstered in a durable fabric featuring a geometric kilim-inspired pattern in shades of rose, taupe, and grey. No maker’s marks are visible on the frame. The item bears several temporary paper auction lot labels with handwritten numbers including 7492 and 791.
Condition report:
The chair shows signs of age and regular use. There are visible surface scratches and wear to the stained finish on the armrests and frame. The upholstery appears used but remains intact, with some expected fading and minor soiling consistent with age.
