Lot 847: A Set of 4 Victorian Occasional Chairs
An assembled set of four Victorian-style occasional chairs constructed from a dark-finished hardwood, likely mahogany or walnut. The collection features three distinct seat designs: two chairs with padded seats upholstered in red velvet-style fabric, one chair with a woven cane seat, and one chair with a solid wood seat featuring a perforated hole pattern. The construction includes broad, curved top rails supported by turned spindles and traditional joinery. A handwritten paper label on one back rail reads 4 X VICTORIAN OCCASIONAL CHAIRS and 13, with an additional lot tag numbered 847.
Condition report:
The chairs are in heavily used, as-found condition. The timber frames show significant wear to the finish, including scratches, scuffs, and areas of loss. The woven cane seat is damaged and sagging, requiring replacement. The perforated wooden seat exhibits a visible split near the front edge. The red velvet upholstery is dusty and worn with fraying at the edges. The set requires professional restoration.
