Lot 899: An early 20th century oak gateleg drop-leaf table in the Jacobean revival style
A small oak gateleg drop-leaf table produced in the Jacobean revival style, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1920-1930. The piece is constructed from solid oak with a dark-stained finish. The top is oval in form when both leaves are fully extended, consisting of a narrow fixed central section flanked by two semi-oval drop-leaves. The base is composed of trestle-style end supports with shaped cut-outs, joined by a central stretcher. Two gate-action legs swing out from the frame to support the leaves. There are no visible manufacturer marks. A handwritten paper adhesive label is affixed to the underside of the base with the characters SMALL GATELEG TABLE and RS 981, which appear to be internal stock or auction identification marks.
Condition report:
The table is in a used and stable condition. The top surface shows signs of age and wear, including several light scratches, areas of finish loss, and a few small white scuff marks or paint flecks. The gate-leg mechanism is functional. No major structural damage or repairs are visible.
